Students often ask me if getting certified as an AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate is enough to get a job. The short answer is that an AWS certificate alone won't work for you. There are many other features that are an essential part of starting your AWS career.
So
does this mean it's not worth pursuing qualifications? Obviously not!
Qualifications Are Extremely Helpful: Unless essential to getting a good IT
job, AWS jobs can be extremely rewarding. The thing is, it adds a lot more to
the qualification: you also need knowledge relevant to the situation you're
applying to and be very "employable" (more than that soon).
I
think it's also good to say that AWS certification is almost a prerequisite
rather than differences today. If you don't have multiple AWS certificates,
this is usually the case. Everyone seems to have the Associate Architect
Associate certificate, so this doesn't make you stand out when applying for the
AWS Solution Architect job. Of course, from an employer's perspective, you are
expected to have an AWS pair and if you don't get noticed.
I
recommend doing at least all AWS-related certifications and at least one
professional or specialty level. Try to align the credentials with your
knowledge and select the credentials relevant to the professional roles you
want. The cloud professional is also an easy starting point and additional
credentials to have in your CV, so it's worth doing too.
It's
helpful to put yourself in the employer's shoes and think about what they're
looking for when they hire. From that perspective, you can then understand what
you need to do to get an edge over others in your quest to find a job that
works in the clouds. So what is an employer looking for?
